Tara rafting is offered from both sides of the border, but the Bosnian side is the easiest choice for most travellers coming from Sarajevo, the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina or Serbia. Rafting Camp Eden is at Hum near Foča, right where the Tara meets the Piva - and the all-inclusive 1-day package with meals, full equipment and transfer is 65€.
"Is Tara rafting in Bosnia or Montenegro?" is one of the first questions guests ask when planning a trip. Here is how it works on the ground, and why many guests choose the Bosnian side.
Where is the Tara - Bosnia or Montenegro?
The Tara rises and flows through Montenegro, through the Durmitor area, carving a canyon up to about 1,300 m deep - the deepest in Europe. Its water is so clean it is called the "Tear of Europe", and its basin is UNESCO protected.
Where the canyon opens up, right on the border, the Tara meets the Piva at Hum (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Šćepan Polje (Montenegro), and together they form the Drina. Our camp sits exactly at that confluence, on the Bosnian bank.
Why raft the Tara from the Bosnian side?
- No need to enter Montenegro. The camp is reached by road through Foča. Coming from Sarajevo or from Serbia, you stay on the Bosnian side.
- A camp right at the confluence. After the descent through the canyon you come back to the camp for lunch, rest and an evening by the river.
- One clear, all-inclusive price. The 65€ 1-day package includes a buffet breakfast and lunch, full equipment, transfer to the starting point, taxes and insurance.
- Pay in euros or convertible marks. Payment is in cash at the camp, in the currency that suits you.
- 20% off on weekdays. Monday to Friday, every package is cheaper and the river is quieter.
- More than rafting. From the camp we run guided hikes to Perućica primeval forest, Trnovačko Lake and Maglić, Zelengora and Ljubišnja, plus horseback riding, jeep safari and canyoning.
